4th Symposium ‘Idealized Integrated Care
Understanding menopause - related pelvic floor changes; optimal strategies
On October 16 and 17, 2025, the fourth edition of the symposium
‘Idealized Integrated Pelvic Care’ will take place, centered around the theme:
Understanding menopause –
related changes in the pelvic floor; optimal strategies
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that by 2030, around 1.2 billion women will be over the age of 50—a number that is three times higher than in 1990. “Access to information about menopause and its consequences is therefore of utmost importance. Due to the increase in life expectancy, many women will spend decades in a state of estrogen deficiency during the postmenopausal phase. Perimenopausal and postmenopausal women are at risk worldwide. To guide women through this crucial life transition, healthcare providers need sufficient insight, knowledge, and practical skills. Women must receive appropriate information, assessment, and treatment during their post-reproductive years.
In peri- and postmenopausal women, pelvic physiotherapy has proven effective for pelvic floor dysfunctions such as urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and genitourinary syndrome, including sexual dysfunctions during menopause. Based on scientific evidence, the goal of this clinically practical symposium is to provide effective strategies that improve the quality of life for women going through menopause.
On Thursday, October 16, two hands-on clinical workshops will be held:
Workshop 1: Functional evaluation and ultrasound imaging of the pelvic floor during menopause
Workshop 2: Clinical practice of sexual health issues during menopause
On Friday, October 17, the symposium will take place, with the main theme:
Understanding Menopause – related changes in the pelvic floor; optimal strategies
An engaging program has been developed for pelvic physiotherapists, general practitioners, gynecologists, urologists, continence nurses, and many other healthcare professionals.
Renowned Dutch and international speakers will join Bary Berghmans.
The symposium will once again take place in the beautiful and atmospheric city of Maastricht, the Netherlands.
The venue for both the workshops and the symposium is NH Hotel Maastricht.
Accommodation at this location is available for attendees.

*ICL Academy endorses the NVFB position that pelvic physiotherapists are only allowed to perform ultrasound after 25 hours of internship and thorough training under the approval of specialists such as gynecologists. Furthermore, the NVFB states that pelvic physiotherapists are not allowed to make medical diagnoses. According to the aforementioned NVFB position, the pelvic physiotherapist is also not permitted to perform endovaginal ultrasound.

The new guidance outside the treatment room

An innovative app developed by Dr. Maura Seleme enables patients to actively engage in pelvic floor muscle training alongside their in-clinic pelvic physiotherapy. This app not only helps patients train the correct muscles, but also supports them in consistently performing the exercises, contributing to sustainable and long-lasting results.
